Family Setup

I will warn you first that this is probably the “crack” page of this shrine, as majority of this page contains fan speculation. Please note that this is not proven to be true, and the four of them do not get together. I just believe that if they were given the chance with Sesshoumaru’s heart currently softening, the four of them could make a family of sorts.

Though Kikyou obviously loves Inuyasha, there has been a large fan base made for the relationship between Sesshoumaru and Kikyou as a “forbidden love”. I can see the skeptics forming lines already, and I know the possibility of it was and always will be virtually zero. Either way, I still think their relationship would be interesting if they did get to know each other more. In reality, Sesshoumaru does not care about Kikyou at all, mainly because she has relation to the half-brother he pretty much despises. But, the two barely ever talk minus in the first movie and after Kikyou saves Rin. I am guessing that Sesshoumaru just considers her another person he is superior to, but if Rin made her way into his heart through her kindness and not being afraid of him, there still would be a possibility for Kikyou to do the same if she ever wanted to. There is no doubt that Sesshoumaru has changed a lot since the beginning of the series because of the small girl, because he has begun showing some of his emotions since then. Of course it will never happen now that she is dead, and even if she was not, she was only living on hatred for Inuyasha. It still makes for a good story doesn’t it? The relationship between Sesshoumaru and Kikyou is obviously the furthest stretch out of the relationship between the four, but I do not think it would be impossible if they were given the chance. She was able to change Inuyasha anyway, and Sesshoumaru is a lot softer now than he used to be.

Next up would be Kikyou and Rin. Kikyou saves Rin from being killed by Suikotsu, to which Rin thanks her for doing so. Kikyou makes sure she is not hurt and tells her she must have been scared. And…that ends the amount of interaction these two have. Kikyou obviously loves spending time with children because she is almost always seen doing so whenever she is in a village or near people. When she was alive, she had her younger sister, as well as other children in the village who she played games with. Even after being resurrected, Kikyou still spends time with children in the villages she stays in, teaching them about medical herbs and flowers, and most likely the same things she did when she was alive. She probably had thoughts of becoming a mother after she believed she would be able to become a normal woman. In fact, I know Kikyou would have made a great mother because she has a lot of experience with children and just has that motherly air about her. Rin was able to melt Sesshoumaru’s outer wall, and I think Kikyou would probably bend towards her cheerfulness as well.

Out of the three, Kikyou spends the most time with Kohaku. At first, she probably only saw Kohaku as a tool to defeat Naraku, but as Sango points out during Kikyou’s death, she would readily fight to protect the boy. Kikyou and Kohaku became traveling partners for some time while she kept his shard of the Shikon no Tama purified. After being attacked by Naraku, she sends him away with her two Shikigami in order to protect him. Ironically enough for this page, Kohaku ends up with Sesshoumaru and Rin, and stays with them instead. Kohaku worries for Kikyou, and wants to go find her again because she was not in good health when he left her. It is obvious the boy cares for her wellbeing and is willing to risk himself to make sure she is all right. On the other side, while Naraku captures Kikyou and her life is completely in his hands, she wonders where Kohaku is and if he is doing okay. Yeah, she has concern for the last fragment of the jewel, but I believe she is worried for Kohaku as well. He, too, is sustained in life when he should not be, so I think she has a similar connection to him to that of Suikotsu.

So, with these relationships plus the individual relationships between Sesshoumaru, Rin and Kohaku, I think the four of them could come together to form some sort of family setup. Sesshoumaru would be the father figure with his strength and protection, plus he already is to Rin, and is starting to be for Kohaku anyway. Kikyou would be the mother figure since she is gentle and caring and has a great amount of experience with children. Rin and Kohaku would fill the sibling roles, as they are both young and seem to have that sort of relationship. Even Jaken could be considered a sibling as well because he tends to argue with Rin even though he really does care about her. Lastly, Ah Un could be their pet! Come on, it is perfect! I really like the idea of the four of them having some sort of not very structured family relationship, and their relationships with each other are all interesting and complex in their own ways. Unfortunately, Kikyou is now dead, and Kohaku will most likely be the next to die because they will need his jewel shard, so it would never work out that way. Even so, the idea is cute and I know they have some sort of fan base out there other than crazy old me.
