Olette
Kairi and Olette meet once when she travels to Twilight Town. The two seem to hit it off pretty well in a flashback while the Twilight Town gang is explaining what happened to Sora when he visits them, as they are both laughing and joking around. She seemed to fit right in with the three of them, and Hayner, Pence and Olette all considered her a friend of theirs as they went to the Mansion in order to try and find what happened to her. This is, however, not the point of this page, as the two girls do not really form any sort of significant bond, though they probably could. Even before the “Six Days” ended, I found myself easily drawing parallels from Olette to Kairi.
Both Kairi and Olette are the only female in their individual group of friends, and therefore they end up being the responsible ones. Olette looks out for Hayner, Pence and Roxas, and makes sure they do not do anything stupid. She also is the mature one in the sense that she makes sure they do their summer homework before vacation ends. She is sort of the voice of what they should be doing as opposed to what they want to do all the time, and Kairi has a similar role with Sora and Riku. Though I do not believe she was as mature as Olette before the three left Destiny Islands, she still acted as a neutral party that was a mediator guardian of sorts. She made sure they settled their arguments and differences in a non-violent way and usually was judge of any sort of competition they had. If homework had been brought into the picture, Kairi would probably be the one getting the other two to do it, even though Riku portrays her as being “lazy” in the beginning of Kingdom Hearts. Sora is definitely not the type to want to do school work, and Riku would probably be indifferent as to when they did it as long as it got done, so Kairi would most likely take responsibility.
Though many people argue that Naminé to Roxas is like Kairi to Sora, I would have to argue that Olette to Roxas fits their description more. Without even getting into who likes whom, Olette has a more open relationship with Roxas, and is able to joke around and tease him. She even tries to drag him to go shopping with her. It would seem she has the same sort of “ha-ha” attitude towards Roxas as Kairi often has with Sora before they are separated. Olette is one of Roxas’ friends who he is able to just hang out and relax with like Kairi is to Sora. Unfortunately, Naminé and Roxas never had the chance to have that sort of relationship, and that is why I believe Roxas and Olette can be more easily paralleled to Sora and Kairi.
Having Olette in the Six Days was kind of like having Kairi there in her absence to me. Their personalities and the way they handle situations is so similar, it was almost like Kairi was never “gone” to begin with. Olette’s character in the beginning may even foreshadow Kairi’s character development, but that may be pushing it a bit too much. Regardless, the two are very similar, and if given the chance, they would probably become very good friends. It would be easy to start conversation seeing as how they have their dorky friends that happen to be boys to talk about.
