The Nobodies

Naminé is the one responsible for messing with Sora’s memories, and in turn affecting the memories of those close to him. She put herself in memories that he had with Kairi, making him believe that Naminé was the one he wanted to protect. She only did it under orders from Organization XIII, however, and does end up restoring every last one at the end of Chain of Memories. Even though she restored his memories, it is her fault that Kairi could not remember Sora and basically everything about him for quite some time. Though it is never said Kairi actually finds out about what Naminé did, I do not think that she would hold it against her, just because she did end up helping Sora and Riku out very much. Naminé stands out from the rest of the Nobodies that Kairi interacts with because she is in fact hers. Naminé was born when Kairi’s heart transferred to Sora’s body that night on Destiny Islands. She never expresses any interest in meeting her other half like Roxas does, but she ends up rescuing Kairi from her cell in The World That Never Was. Kairi questions who she is, but Naminé simply tells her to trust herself and to hurry. She reaches out for her hand, and when they touch, their hands begin to glow. The two try to escape, running hand in hand, but Naminé begins to fade out. Once she lets Kairi know Riku is there, she randomly disappears while the camera is focused on Kairi and Riku. Naminé and Kairi meet one last time when she opens up a portal for Kairi and the others to return home. Kairi thanks her and she goes on to talk to Roxas. Kairi steps forward and holds her hand out, and Naminé accepts her fate and becomes a part of Kairi. Naminé would probably rather have stayed her own consciousness, but she never really displayed any discontent about becoming one with Kairi. The two girls are both strong and have the same undying will, but they have two different personalities.

Roxas is Sora’s nobody, who was born the day that Sora gave up his heart in order to free Kairi’s. Roxas and Kairi do not ever physically meet and talk to each other, but after meeting Naminé, he is put in touch with Kairi. Previous to that moment, Roxas had various dreams about different memories of Sora’s, and recognizes her as “that girl he likes”. Kairi does not really appear to care very much about him or why she can randomly hear his voice in her head because she knows that he is talking about Sora, the boy she had been plaguing her memory to remember. Kairi pleads for Roxas to give her Sora’s name, but then Sora joins the conversation in her head. Kairi being in tune with Roxas allowed her to connect temporarily to Sora, thus giving her more of her memories back relating to him. She does not say anything to him when she and Sora see transparent Naminé and Roxas much later in The World That Never Was, but she probably recognizes his voice, not to mention Riku addresses him as Sora’s nobody and she already knew his name. To her, Roxas is most likely only a part of Sora, and therefore she does not make a big deal out of his “existence”. Kairi never talks to Roxas’ consciousness again, as he becomes a part of Sora the next time she sees him.

Lastly, Axel comes to Destiny Islands while Kairi is wondering to herself if waiting for Sora and Riku to return is good enough. He introduces himself as an acquaintance of Sora’s, and holds his hand out to her, inviting her to go see Sora with him. Kairi naturally does not trust the strange looking man claiming to know Sora, as the dusk Nobodies appear and surround her. Axel tells her that the two of them are similar in the fact that they both miss someone they care about. That ‘someone’ is more similar than she knows, as Axel wishes to have Roxas around again, while she is looking for Sora. Of course she does not realize that Axel is looking for Roxas and that Sora would have to lose his heart in order for Roxas to actually return to a consciousness, but she does not trust him anyway. She follows Pluto into the portal of darkness to start her own search for Sora. Axel probably could have handled that situation a bit better. He traces her to Twilight Town and drags her back into the portal of darkness with him, where she somehow eventually ends up in the possession of Saïx. Axel apologizes numerous times to Sora about Kairi before he dies, and it is thanks to him that Sora finds out where she is being held. Axel most likely “felt” bad because he really did mean that the two of them were similar since they were looking for the person they cared about, and taking her away from Twilight Town only pulled her away from Sora. He makes up for it by sacrificing himself to save Sora and pointing him in the right direction to go find her.

Kairi seems to be pretty apathetic towards the Nobodies, regardless of if they are a part of Organization XIII or even her own Nobody. That is not to say that she does not like them, but she never really expresses any feelings about them in general. Kairi has spent so much time waiting for Sora and Riku, so she most likely did not care about anything else once she found them again as much as she might have otherwise. Regardless, the three above have helped her in some way, and she probably is grateful for their help, but otherwise really does not care.
