Kingdom Hearts II is the third game in the Kingdom Hearts series, which follows Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. The story begins with a boy named Roxas, who does not understand his series of weird dreams and strange occurrences that keep happening to him. He struggles to have an average life with his friends Hayner, Pence and Olette in Twilight Town, but things get harder and harder for him as his friends do not seem to see the same things as he does, and therefore he cannot explain why certain things happen.
Every night, Roxas dreams of Sora and people relating to him. The dreams get more detailed and longer as the days progress, and the days only seem to get stranger while he is awake at the same time. A man named Axel comes to him acting like they are best friends, which leaves Roxas confused because he does not remember him at all. He meets a girl named Naminé who explains to him that he was never supposed to exist because he is a Nobody. Naturally Roxas has a hard time processing that, and refuses to accept it. A cloaked figure drags her away from him and Roxas is put back into his “normal” life. He is unable to enjoy himself by the fifth day, and during the sixth, his friends can no longer see him. Roxas runs to the mansion in order to find Naminé, but instead he ends up finding Sora, who is asleep. Roxas is Sora’s Nobody, and is destined to be a part of him again so Sora can wake up. He finally gives in, claiming his summer vacation is over.
The control goes back to the newly awakened Sora, who finds that Donald and Goofy are waiting for him. A year has gone by since Kingdom Hearts and his old clothes are too small for him. He ends up meeting Hayner, Pence and Olette, and the four wonder why they seem to have met before even though they definitely have not. The King arranged transportation for them to leave, and Sora finds himself crying but does not know why. They say their goodbyes to the Twilight Town gang, promising to see each other some day in the future.
Sora, Donald and Goofy find out that their journey is not yet quite over, as a new group called Organization XIII is causing trouble amongst the worlds. They are a group of Nobodies that have a higher level of thinking and self-concept than normal Nobodies, and they are looking to complete Kingdom Hearts in order to re-obtain their own hearts. Not only that, but it seems Maleficent has come back into the world to cause trouble, so Sora and friends must fight Heartless, Organization XIII as well as look for Riku and King Mickey. Thus the story continues…
