Appearance
Kairi obviously has the same blue eyes as the previous game, but her reddish-brown hair is now longer and hangs in her face. She appears to have it styled so it is angled in a somewhat similar fashion to the first game, except that it is much longer. Her bangs tend to cover her eyes and a good portion of her face, especially if she shifts, so she has to shake her head to get them out of her face. I personally liked her old hairstyle better because she stood out to me from other characters because of it, but the longer hair does make her look older and symbolize that time has gone by. She appears to be wearing the same necklace from the first game as well, that has a small stone at the end. Her shoulders are exposed but she has a black hood that is attached to the white tank top underneath her main outfit.
Over the white tank top, which has rounded points at the top, she has a strapless pink dress. The main zipper somewhat unzipped at the top so you can see majority of the tank top, but the dress also has a zipper on each side of the main one. I am assuming that is simply for decoration however, as they do not seem to have any other functional purpose. Kairi has moved from purple and white to pink and white, which may be seen as a change to a more feminine side, but I personally believe this outfit to be less feminine than her outfit in Kingdom Hearts.
The dress continues down to about where her wrists are if her arms were straight down. The zippers on either side of the main one are completely zipped, but the center one is again slightly unzipped, except this time at the bottom. She has a thin black belt around her waist that has a pouch of a similar color attached on her left side. It looks about the size of a small notebook, which is probably what she has inside, if anything at all. The pouch also has a light purple ribbon on it. Her left wrist has three small bands that are white, gray-green and blue in color. A continued style from the previous game, except a lot less chunky looking.
Her legs are completely bare down to her shoes, which are actually a somewhat normal size this time. They are the same light purple color as the ribbon on her pouch with white accents. The souls and straps are black, as well as the black strings she has above her ankles. I am not sure if they are actually attached to her shoes or not, but I doubt they have any functional purpose if they are not.
Kairi is first seen in a school uniform, but I am not going to address that since she does not wear the outfit by choice, and therefore it does not show any kind of personal expression minus the fact that her shirt is not tucked in, her tie is loose and her sleeves are rolled up. Overall, I would say that her new style makes her look a lot older than her outfit in Kingdom Hearts. It also makes her not stand out as much from Riku and Sora because her outfit does not look like something a normal girl would be wearing in the real world, unlike the first game. I suppose this might be because she actually has a part in the action in Kingdom Hearts II, as she does fight when given a keyblade as well. Hey, she is even wearing sneakers as opposed to clogs! Her outfit change may symbolize that she is going to act rather than be stationary in the second game, because besides for the fact that she is wearing a dress, she seems ready to face any situation thrown at her. Or at least more so than her previous outfit. All I can say is that she does not look like the character that is going to be thrown to the side of the story, and that turned out to be truer than the first game.
